The increase in population has created water crisis which is mounting every passing day. Water quality and population density are closely linked; higher the population density, higher will be the expectancy of pollution.
Unfortunately, Pakistan has been facing an acute shortage of drinking water. In fact, Pakistan is one of the 30 most water-deficient countries in the world. The water availability has drastically changed from 5,000 cubic meters per capita (in the early 1950s) to 1,500 per capita. According to a latest report, Pakistan’s total water availability per capita is the lowest in the list of 26 Asian countries and by 2035, Pakistan will become a water scarce country. According to the W.H.O, 25-30% of all hospital admissions in Pakistan are due to consumption of bacterial and parasitic water. 60% infants die due to water infections.
How Alkhidmat is helping:
Alkhidmat Foundation recognizes the critical importance of the issue. With the help of our donors, we have been working very hard in providing clean drinking water in some of the most remote, and water-deficient areas of Pakistan.
Our Water Services:
1:- Water Filtration Plants
2:- Hand Pumps
3:- Water Well
4:- Water Supply Schemes
Water Filtration Plant:
Alkhidmat Foundation has been providing pure, safe, and healthy drinking water to many people through its water purification plants. The objective is to provide filtered, safe, and hygienic water to the masses. Alkhidmat Foundation has planted 380 plants till date.
Alkhidmat Foundation has already established major water filtration plants across Pakistan: Out of the major 14 filtration plants 7 have been installed in Sind, while the other 7 were installed in Punjab with the collaboration of Government Of Japan. These water filtration plants make use of ‘Ultra filtration’ and Reverse ‘Osmosis processes’.
Alkhidmat Foundation has also installed water filtration plants in the following Punjab prisons: Sheikhupura, Shahpur, Sargodha, Attock, Rahim Yar Khan and Mandi Bahauddin. An understanding with I.G. Punjab Police was reached according to which Alkhidmat Foundation agreed to install 10 water filtration plants in jails of Punjab. 7 of them have already been installed, while 3 will be installed soon.
Water pumps are very important contraptions, especially in places where drinking water lies 100-200 feet underground. A grand total of 2,148 hand pumps have been installed all across Pakistan by Alkhidmat Foundations. The annual cost for the hand pumps is estimated to be Rs. 26.19 Million while 7.35 Million people will benefit from these hand pumps.
Wells are hand dug; they provide an incredibly simply way of extracting drinking water. They can be 50—or more—feet deep and are used in places were ground water may be generally available. These wells are fairly dangerous to build, but once built they can prove to be affective resources/reservoirs. Alkhidmat Foundation has built 715 water wells, only this year. Most of these wells were built in arid zones like Tharparkar Sind, where water is truly scarse.
The distribution of water is always troublesome in hilly and remote areas. To remedy the situation a reservoir of water is created mechanically and stored at a place where it could be easily disseminated to the required population. The scheme also involves the development of new water resources so that demand could be met along seamless provision lines.
Note: we can dedicate a water filtration project/well excavation/water-pump project to you, or anyone you may recommend.
