While the residents of Chitral have witnessed the 20-year record-breaking snowfall up to 5 feet and 3.5 inches thick this year, the volunteers of Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan have started relief work to open blocked roads to reach out the families trapped inside their houses to provide them with food items and goods to combat severe coldness.
The record breaking snowfall has also triggered the fear of land-sliding, and at least 40 houses have already been damaged in such incidents. Meanwhile, over 15 people including women and children and have also died in village Sher Sal.
To cope with the devastating situation, Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan has begun relief operation in Chitral and surrounding areas to open the blocked roads, rescue the trapped families and provide them with all necessary things. So far, AKFP has provided food items, tarpaulins, clean water and quilts to more than 500 families.
